We're about halfway through summer and the PTO is already looking to next school year, but we need help. We have numerous vacant positions that need to be filled in order to have a successful year. We have no president, vice president, volunteer coordinator, fundraising coordinator, yearbook chairperson, and popcorn chairperson. While these positions are vacant, we still have those who are willing to train their predecessor for the position. We will gladly answer questions and help as much as possible for you (and our PTO) to be successful.
Maybe you're worried about stepping forward. I started volunteering with the PTO almost 6 years ago when my oldest daughter started kindergarten. We had recently moved to Springfield and I did not know anyone. I felt that volunteering with PTO would help me meet people while also benefiting students. I started working on the yearbook because I had prior experience and felt it was something I could do with 3 year old twins at home. I also volunteered on popcorn Fridays because the twins could accompany me. I did meet fellow parents and the wonderful staff at Ridgeview. I was really enjoying helping and it gave me something to do. Being a stay at home parent can be isolating at times. The following year I became PTO President and remained there until last year, when I became treasurer. I've enjoyed every position I've held in PTO. I've made wonderful friends and learned more than I ever thought I could. I now know how a non-profit works, how to solicit donations from businesses and individuals, how to organize events and write grants. Now that my children are getting older, we need someone else to take the reins. If you're interested, we'd love to hear from you. Regent and I will gladly assist you or answer any questions you might have. Thanks, Crystal

Welcome back Skyhawks!
We hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Break. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our first Holiday Bazaar. It was a smashing success! We hope to have a repeat next year. Ridgeview Elementary has their own Polar Plunge team this year. We'd love to have you join us and jump in the Willamette River on February 10th. We'll be dressed up as Super Heroes again this year. If you don't want to sign up, you can always donate. All money raised goes directly to Oregon Special Olympics. http://soor.convio.net/site/TR/Plunge/General?team_id=1570&pg=team&fr_id=1102 Yearbook order forms will be sent home this week. Last year we sold out so pre-ordering is always the best bet. Yearbooks will cost $10 until February 23rd. Then they will be $12. You can always order online at: https://goo.gl/N2jnD3 Yearbooks will be delivered the last week of school. Popcorn is this Friday! If you've already prepaid, no worries. Otherwise, don't forget to send your student with a quarter! There's a PTO Meeting on Thursday, January 18th at 6pm in the cafeteria. We'll be discussing the upcoming read-a-thon, Spirit Fridays, BINGO Night and a possible STEM Night. This month's Family Dinner Night is still being determined. We'll let you know as soon as possible. Read-a-Thon starts February 1st. Every Friday during February, we'll have Spirit Fridays. Each Friday will have a different theme, culminating on 3/2 with Book Character Day, Way to go Ridgeview Families! As of today, we raised $5,976 selling Papa's Coupon Sheets! All of that money goes back to funding field trips, Reflex Math, Wow prizes and events. We couldn't have done it without you so THANK YOU! Room 4 was the winner of the pizza party and $150 for their classroom. Up next is our Teacher Papa's Night on October 25th. Flyers will be sent home next week. All the money raised at this Papa's night will go back to classrooms so make sure your room number is on your flyer. Invite your friends and family to join you and of course, you can always use those coupons. You can also print one out below.
Our annual Movie Night is coming November 3rd. We will be watching Nanny McPhee. It will kick off our Canned Food Drive and also our Book Fair. Concessions will be available for purchase and admission is 1 nonperishable food item.
Our first Family Dinner Night is this week! Flyers should have gone home today or will tomorrow. On Wednesday and Thursday, eat at Dickie Jo's, Dickie Yo's or both and bring your flyer. Ridgeview PTO will earn 25% of your purchase. It works all day, both days. If you happened not to receive a flyer, there are a few still available in the office or you can download and print one below.
Our first PTO Meeting of the year is also this week. On Thursday, September 21, at 6pm, come join us in the Ridgeview Cafeteria. We'll have a guest speaker from the Springfield Public Library and we will also be discussing our Fall Family Movie Night (help us choose a movie!), and the upcoming book fair. We'd love to see you there!
